Things younger than Republican Presidential candidate (oh, and did I forget to mention “war hero”?) John McCain - Am I being “age-ist”? Probably. But the world is a pretty complicated place right now and I’m thinking that it’s not such a great time to elect our oldest President ever. So sue me.

Three Keys to a Successful Code Review

    http://blog.dennyboynton.com/ post.aspx?id=50510234-1c26-463f-840e-41a864e347f3

Code reviews should be built into every project timeline. What I find most of the time is that they are overlooked, excluded in lieu of functional testing only, or worst of all, performed by the wrong person. This is shame because a code review can significantly enhance a team's chance of delivering a quality piece of software that the customer will actually use.

Parallel Analysis and Velicer’s MAP Test

    http://www.aliquote.org/ memos/ 2008/ 05/ 12/ parallel-analysis-and-velicers-map…

Searching the web for some relevant references about Generalizability Theory, I discover Brian O’Connor’s website. He’s developing several SPSS, SAS and Matlab programs to do some psychometrical analysis. I was particularly interested in his notes on parallel analysis and the reasons why we have to perform factor analysis on dichotomously scored items or Lickert items very carefully.

Fixing a 25 year old bug

    http://www.transidian.com/ 2008/ 05/ 12/ fixing-a-25-year-old-bug/

There is an article that is really worth reading over at http://www.vnode.ch/fixing_seekdir, where the author hunts down a 25 year old bug that causes seekdir() to fail to seek to the right position, an issue Samba have been seeing for some years. Additionally, I tip my hat to Marc Balmer.

    Links for May 11th

    http://webiest.com/ technology/ links-for-may-11th/

John Resig - Processing.js - # Types and type casting - Type information is generally discarded, but becomes important in variable declaration and in casting (which is generally handled well). # Classes - The full class system is supported (can be instantiated, etc. just fine).

    Not Elevens, Allusions

    http://animanachronism.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 05/ 08/ not-elevens-allusions/

The funny thing is, wildarmsheero is right: Code Geass doesn’t have a pretentious bone in its body. It’s the fans who are the pretentious ones. The show is just noise and pictures, and it’s the fans who shove the meaning on it. We’ve been here before, and we don’t need to say anything about Code Geass at all - it can just be enjoyed.

Static Code Analysis - Recipe for Failure

    http://preachsecurity.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 05/ static-code-analysis-recipe-for-fa…

I've been thinking and talking to a large pool of folks over the past 2 weeks about "Static Code Analysis" or "Whitebox Analysis" of web-based applications and have come up with an analysis of why I think this is a flawed approach. Feel free to hop over to my other blog and give it a read, and comment away.
