Falling Down: Enviros Shouldn’t Sweat Lower Oil Prices

    http://blogs.wsj.com/ environmentalcapital/ 2008/ 10/ 06/ falling-down-enviros-s…

Falling oil prices generally aren’t good news for environmentalists. Higher oil and gas prices, after all, have poleaxed American demand for gasoline this year and made hybrid cars even more popular. But could there be a green lining to crude’s downward march?

US Biofuel farmers could benefit twice from cap and trade

I think that farmers in the US might be able to benefit twice from some carbon cap-and-trade proposals, according to this piece from the Des Moines Register. First they'd have to move to no-till planting and secondly they'd have to get some kind of a share of the credit from the biofuel producers.

This was the case built by BP Chief Scientist, Steve Koonin, at Technology Review’s EmTech conference last week (webcast available here). His case went like this: • If every vehicle in America were electric-powered, and we achieved three times the energy efficiencies in those vehicles than we get today, • It would require 50% more electric power capacity than we are currently producing.

When asked about climate change at the vice-presidential debate, Gov. Sarah Palin said, “I don’t want to argue about the causes. What I want to argue about is, how are we going to get there to positively affect the impacts?” Generally speaking, if we don’t know what the cause of a given problem is,

FROM AN AUSTRALIAN’S POINT OF VIEW Tonight’s debate put one thing to rest once and for all. It proves Governor Palin can hold her own with the so called big guys. She was assured and confident. The media kept telling us that the bar was going to be deliberately set low, and that she would still trip over it.

This is just one. The Western Climate Initiative. There are many out there--mostly under the umbrella of global warming, which now includes health, safety, education, social engineering, and got its fair share of pork in the new bailout. The Western Climate Initiative would establish a regional market
