British mountaineer and famed rock climber, Ian Jackson, has been killed in what authorities are calling a “technical mistake” while abseiling a rock face near the foot of Mont Blanc. The 19 year-old climber had been climbing on the Les Gaillands crag near Chamonix  when the 160ft fall occurred.  Ian Jackson was airlifted to a hospital in Geneva, Switzerland but died en route.

Maryland Public Television is having its Chesapeake Bay Week this week, and tonight was the Volunteer-a-thon. MPT filmed a bunch of volunteer events in March and then interviewed representatives from the volunteer organizations tonight to get volunteer hours for them. It's an awesome idea.

Word on the street is that the CBS Evening News segment on the Maryland Carbon Reduction Action Group airs Thursday. Hooray!

Til now, I did not think that the US government was seriously considering a carbon cap-and-trade system for individuals. I had heard about a presentation by RSA (British Royal Society for the Encouragement of the Arts) to the National Press Club back in November, and that RSA is planning to run a simulation at the Democratic National Convention this summer.
