Many of us relinquished the pleasure of listening to stories as part of the process of “growing up.” A couple years ago I realized that I could reclaim that delight, and became hooked on audio books. Now, I can’t imagine riding the bus or walking to work without a good story to listen to.

I stumbled on Dark Beloved Cloud sometime in 1999. Back when the label was still based in New York. I was digging for a copy of Fly Ashtray’s Clumps Takes A Ride, yet another cassette that suffered the same fate as the Mommyheads tape I’ve written about… curdled in the heat of early-90’s South Floridian sun.

MUDGE’S Musings So it’s already almost 9:30pmCDT as I begin these words, pretty late to start a week-night project. It’s only a little crazy that, for WordPress.com, it’s already Thursday, as they operate on GMT and the calendar flips over for them at 7:00pmCDT. But, while not Thursday yet in my world, it’s pretty late.

Recently I’ve been listening to a lot of audio books. I’ve had the good fortune to listen to a series of recordings with excellent narrators. These include (for all but the first item, links go to iTunes so you can hear a sample) Tom Stechschulte reading Cormac McCarthy’s The Road (see the audio player at the bottom of the post), Steve Martin, David Rakoff and David Sedaris.

Working away from home for some moms can be very difficult. Caring for work responsibilities, family and a home can all be very time consuming. If you find yourself working long hours in order to complete the amount of work on your desk, talk to your manager about distributing the work among the people in your department.

I am loving the new design for my blog site.  It makes me look competent, professional and rather shiny.  This, of course, is utter nonsense and just shows you what good window dressing will do.  It’s the blogging equivalent of ten tons of tit tape and an air brush, but I love it anyway.  It hides

WOW.
