    http://moodlea.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 09/ open-source-finally-approved-for-uk.html

According to a post on the PC Pro News pages 12 "open-source companies" (I think it's the software they support that's open source, rather than the companies themselves, but hey) have made the list for the Software for Educational Institutions Framework, which means that they can supply schools with

Information Security – it’s not black and white

    http://blogs.msdn.com/ ukschools/ archive/ 2008/ 09/ 18/ information-security-it…

I’m continuing to read the new Becta guidance documents on Information Security, and think about the consequences. After a few discussions with people, and comments from others here and elsewhere, I thought I’d try a to create a visual way of understanding where we are. This is by no means definitive, and it might be wrong.

Ed The Fed says "Stay safe out there"

    http://blogs.msdn.com/ ukschools/ archive/ 2008/ 09/ 17/ ed-the-fed-says-stay-sa…

I have a colleague, Ed, who’s a legend around here. He’s the Microsoft UK Chief Security Advisor. Obviously that’s a bit of a mouthful, which is why we call him “Ed the Fed”, because of his career history – which obviously makes him an ideal person to ask about Information Security.

Why as an educator you should care about Open Source Software

    http://www.dougbelshaw.com/ 2008/ 08/ 25/ why-as-an-educator-you-should-care-abo…

I’ve been invited to be part of a Becta project into Open Source Software (OSS). “What is OSS?” I hear you ask. A Google define: open source software search does a reasonable job, but for the layperson something a bit closer to home is needed. In a strange way, using OSS is a bit like buying Fairtrade products.
