6 Golden Investments for a Commodities 0 The recent declines in the gold price have caused a huge amount of air to whoosh out of gold share prices, to the extent that they now represent pretty good value. Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX) is a Canadian company, with mostly North American production, plus some in South America and Africa, and copper and zinc add-ons.

Martin Hutchinson in Money Morning says that over the long-term oil and agricultural commodities are likely to deflate. This is because, once the threat posed by the U.S. housing crisis has passed, the Federal Reserve will be forced to increase interest rates to fight inflation.

With oil off more than 20% from its July peak, and the Reuters-CRB Continuous Commodity Index down 19% from its June high, traders are betting that commodities have entered a bear cycle with much further to fall. But it is much more likely that commodities will enjoy another “bounce,” with many of them revisiting record levels before a true downturn sets in.

We started liking Yamana Gold (AUY) back on August 11 when we wrote our post thinking the sell-off may have created a a buying opportunity. The stock easily bounced off the $9 area, and we felt a short-term opportunity was presenting itself. (more…)

Yamana Gold (AUY) seems to be our poster child for gold dividend stocks. We often use AUY as a gauge for commodity stocks, and this name had been gold investors’ best friend until it was sawed in half recently. (more…)
