Hitchens On Afghanistan: Surge Won’t Work

    http://donklephant.com/ 2008/ 10/ 06/ hitchens-on-afghanistan-surge-wont-work/

I agree with everything Chris has to say here. If Afghanistan has any hope of recovering, it’ll have to be via standard of living improvements, and nobody can make a living if we destroy their only cash crop. Especially when we could be buying it to produce legal pain killers.

Because The War On Terrorism Has Been A Failure

    http://bloodthirstyliberal.com/ ?p=7379

The war on terrorism, part of the “failed Bush doctrine”, has caused the Taliban to split from al qaeda and beg for peace. But pay no attention to this news, because nothing that George W. Bush does ever works, right? He’s an idiot, right? Maybe not.

Karzai’s brother in Afghan heroin trade

    http://dearkitty.blogsome.com/ 2008/ 10/ 06/ karzais-brother-in-afghan-heroin-tr…

This video from the USA is called The Post-9/11 Afghan Heroin Explosion. From The Nation daily in Pakistan: Reports link Karzai’s brother to heroin trade When Afghan security forces found an enormous cache of heroin hidden beneath concrete blocks in a tractor-trailer outside Kandahar in 2004, the local Afghan commander quickly impounded the truck and notified his boss.

Abraham’s Well - Guarded by the United States Army

    http://northshorejournal.org/ abraham%e2%80%99s-well-guarded-by-the-united-state…

The oasis at Al Asad was once believed to be the biblical “Abraham’s Well.” Though research has proven otherwise, the importance of the oasis still holds a rich historical and cultural significance to the people here. For most Soldiers serving here, it’s hard to imagine a small pond with lush green life around it in the middle of this sand-filled country.

Filed under: Nintendo Wii, First Person Shooters click to enlarge Was it mere coincidence that Activision's latest Wii FPS was situated right next to The Conduit at Nintendo's SF media event? You know, as if to say, "You want first-person shooters? Wii has you covered." Surely not.

ADVERTISING PATRIOTISM IN WWII: SCRANTON CURTAINS

    http://contexts.org/ socimages/ 2008/ 10/ 06/ advertising-patriotism-in-wwii-scr…

During WWII, many companies stopped producing the civilian goods that they were best known for. Instead, these companies contributed to the war effort by making products necessary for American soldiers. Scranton Craftspun Curtains, for example, switched from making lace curtains to camouflage covers, mosquito nets and parachutes.

The Fine Line is the event that my friend and colleague Yvette Schneider spoke at. I love the part where she shared her story (about 68 minutes in.) The whole video is a very interesting way to approach this issue from a Christian perspective geared toward young people.

Marc Hogan vs. Noah and the Whale

    http://musicforants.com/ blog/ ?p=1127

Marc Hogan hasn’t had a good chance to unleash his deep hatred for blog-buzzed bands in a while so it comes as no surprise that his review of London twee-folk band, Noah and the Whale, is so unnecessarily malicious and petty. From Hogan’s excessive praise of bands like Los Campesinos!, I’m From
