Edinburgh Film Festival: Day-by-day guide… PART ONE

    http://themoviebarn.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 05/ 11/ edinburgh-film-festival-guide-p…

Film festivals, like any kind of festival, tend to have lots of things going on in a not-very-long period of time. This can lead to confusion and anger when scanning the programme and finding that the thing you wanted to see is on at the same time as the other thing and that the third thing has already been on and you missed it and AAAGH! As such, a plan is required.

    Egg Heads

    http://folliesoffawcus.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 05/ 09/ egg-heads/

I occasionally watch the BBC2 teatime quiz show “Eggheads” and I partially enjoy it. It gives a good overview of a certain section of society: quiz buffs in the UK. It rewards useless and obscure information, which I applaud; there’s nothing wrong with someone showing off their knowledge of 19th Century railways in my book.

THE CONSTABLE ESTATE VINEYARDS GARDENS HUNTER VALLEY, NSW Constable Estate Vineyards NSW was established in 1981. Out of a total of approximately 15 hectares, 7 have been planted with Shiraz, Semillon, Chardonnay and Verdelho. A house was built in 1985 and at that time native shrubs were planted to give privacy and act as a windbreak.

"the english, lord love them, they talk about the weather. but so does everybody else on earth, these days. right now, the weather is superatmospheric and therefore, in a sense, supermetereological (can you really call it weather?). it will stay like this for the rest of the summer, they say.

    Tribeca 2008: Somers Town

    http://blog.spout.com/ 2008/ 04/ 28/ tribeca-2008-somers-town/

I saw six films at Tribeca this weekend, and five of them were completely blown off the map by Somers Town, Shane Meadows’ practically perfect follow-up to his 2007 triumph, This is England. England was one of my favorite films of last year, but its political/historical aims, admittedly, occasionally overwhelmed Meadows’ more subtle, character-based observations.

Tribeca Film Festival Review: Somers Town

    http://www.nerve.com/ CS/ blogs/ screengrab/ archive/ 2008/ 04/ 26/ tribeca-film…

Somers Town reunites the talented writer-director Shane Meadows with Thomas Turgoose, the amazing, fifteen-year-old star of Meadows's previous film, the scalding This Is England. In that movie, Turgoose, playing an emotionally bewildered young skinhead, looked like an eleven-year-old boy with a fifty-year-old face.

    We Are Skinheads

    http://minorityqueen.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 04/ 21/ we-are-skinheads/

Being Black and being a skinhead seem to clash of course if you don’t know what you are talking about. The original Skinheads were black, but just like everything else white people (no person in particular) have turned it into an ugly scene. Just like every other uniformed person I thought all skinheads were just racist bastards.
