After reading Andy's account on his experience in using 3 Network and skype phone in UK, I know whom I will be using in UK, once I get over there for a 3 months on a study break coming winter and again in next summer. I have used various carriers in UK as I travel there often as I am affiliated to a University over there.

Fring brings VoIP to the iPhone, at least over Wifi

Fring just released version 2 of its integrated communications software to the iPhone App Store, including the ability to use both Skype and SIP voice calling when connected to a wifi hotspot. Apple has said that VoIP over wifi would be possible on the iPhone and Fring is the first to make it happen.

Only 2 days after the release of Fring, there is already a hack available that allows you to make free calls via the 3G network. Fring has been allowed to the App Store under condition that you can just use it to make phone calls via WiFi networks.
