May 17, 2008 is Open Malaysia blog's 2nd. birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! The first post 2 years ago declared. "This is a blog about openness, saying that the changing times call for innovation through open collaboration." ODF, open standards and open source were what we championed then and what we still champion today.

    Reaction from Parliament ...

    http://lodahl.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 05/ reaction-from-parliament.html

Reaction from Parliament ... Members of the parliament are angry that they didn't know about the total split in the Technical Committee under Danish Standards. Several Danish IT policy rapporteurs are surprised that the OOXML Committee with Danish Standard has been totally divided.

    “Paranoid linux geek” explains OOXML

    http://spinstah.net/ blog/ 2008/ 05/ paranoid-linux-geek-explains-ooxml/

Tenth (aka Quincy Dave aka the guy who brought the Wii to my going-away party) recently posted an excellent take on the OOXML “standard,” and I wanted to share. His explanation as to why it’s terrible is informed, well-written and snarky to boot.

    Where’s the final OOXML specification?

    http://www.sutor.com/ newsite/ blog-open/ ?p=2280

We’ve heard from folks that the final post-Ballot Resolution Meeting version of OOXML has still not been made available to national standards bodies. This would be the updated 6000+ page document that included all the edits voted on at the BRM.

    A Blog Rant from Absurdistan

    http://www.softwarefree.org/ a_blog_rant_from_absurdistan

One of the great things about the blogosphere is the scope it provides for the unfettered rant – a piece where the author is totally and utterly out of his or her pram. I should know: as a blogger, I've penned a few myself.

Louis Suarez-Potts: OOXML Has Zero Effect On ODF

    http://www.fsdaily.com/ Legal/ Louis_Suarez_Potts_OOXML_Has_Zero_Effect_On_ODF

Louis Suarez-Potts: OOXML Has Zero Effect On ODF http://www.efytimes.com – ODF as a default format was first adopted by OpenOffice.org (OOo). Naturally, when OOXML’s approval cast a doubt on ODF, we sought reactions of the OOo team, on how they viewed the future of OOo, ODF and OOXML.

The standard that was not and the Hague Declaration

    http://standardsandfreedom.net/ index.php/ 2008/ 05/ 14/ the-standard-that-was-n…

We are on the 14 th of May and OOXML is an ISO standard. Slight problem: there is no known specification or definitive draft of that ISO standard. To be sure, we know what the first version of Ecma 376 looks like, and we know it pretty well, although it’s 6000 pages long.
