One Laptop Per Child vs. SocialVibe
http://xanadistic.vox.com/ library/ post/ one-laptop-per-child-vs-socialvibe.htm…Candy posted about this SocialVibe widget you put on your blog, MySpace, etc. I thought I would play around with it. You get to choose which cause you want to support, and the only one that I liked was the One Laptop Per Child program because I love the idea of technology and communication tools being introduced into an area where people don't know anything about email or "surfing the web".

Archimedes: A Big Enough Lever
http://www.mcmains.net/ 2008/ 05/ 09/ archimedes-a-big-enough-lever/This morning on the way to work, I was thinking about the critics of the One Laptop per Child program. Lots of people maintain that, rather than sending a $100 laptop to kids in third-world countries, we would do far better to send them $100 in food. And to a degree, I think they’re right — laptops are of no use to a child who is starving.

Switching to multiple threads, with a non-thread-safe resource
http://pvanhoof.be/ blog/ index.php/ 2008/ 05/ 09/ switching-to-multiple-threads…Switching to multiple threads, with a non-thread-safe resource May 9th, 2008 Your application used to be single threaded and is consuming a resource that is not thread-safe. You’re splitting your application up into two or more threads. Both threads want to consume the non-thread-safe resource.

Its about the kids, stupid
http://www.stillsecureafteralltheseyears.com/ ashimmy/ 2008/ 05/ its-about-the-k…Matt Asay has a blog up on "OLPC's capitulation to Windows...". In it Matt waxes poetic about what a mistake Nicholas Negroponte is making by embracing Windows for the OLPC laptop project. Matt points to Groklaw, Richard Stallman and the rest of the Redmond revolutionaries who want to see Negroponte tarred and feathered and question his vision.

Calling all xo owners in London
http://www.frankieroberto.com/ weblog/ 867If you follow my photostream on Flickr, you may have noticed that a couple of months ago I excitedly posted pictures of a little green laptop that I had had posted to me from Canada. The laptop is called an xo (pronounced as the letters, ‘ex oh’), which is the laptop produced by the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) organisation.

OLPC Decision Not Final, RMS Asks: Can We Rescue OLPC from Windows?
http://www.tuxmachines.org/ node/ 26489OLPC Decision Not Final, RMS Asks: Can We Rescue OLPC from Windows? Submitted by srlinuxx on Sun, 05/04/2008 - 14:44. OLPC groklaw.net: Richard Stallman just switched to an OLPC XO, for the free bios, and at that same moment in time, Nicholas Negroponte made some odd statements about Windows and the OLPC.
