Why Women Almost Always Do Better in Business Than Men
http://www.businesspundit.com/ why-women-almost-always-do-better-in-business-tha…The Washington Post has a great article today that explores the reasons why empowering women eliminates the cycle of poverty, particularly in post-conflict Rwanda. It’s hard to imagine the lives Rwandan women have lead, hard to relate to a circumstance where you have no rights, no standing, and no physical power to protect yourself.

Living in Spring
http://billi-jean.com/ blog/ ?p=441Babies and bubbles and dandelions. I love Spring. I had forgotten how much I love it - not because it’s been a whole year since we had it, but because it has been years since we had a *real* one. This year it is perfect: some very warm days, some very cool days. The nights are [...]

Rainy Days
http://seasideenchantment.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 05/ rainy-days.htmlIt has been gray and dreary here. We've had thunderstorms and rain for the past few days. Thankfully the skies will be clear for the weekend and the sunshine will return. Late yesterday afternoon we were able to see a baby downy woodpecker peeking out of its home! We used binoculars to get an even better view.

Beauty in nature scales
http://leisureguy.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 05/ 16/ beauty-in-nature-scales/That is, nature is beautiful at all scales, from tiny to astronomical. You’ve seen lots of photos of the latter taken by the Hubble space telescope. Ben kindly passes along a link to the latter: beauty in grains of sand.

Global Wildlife Populations Plummeting
http://ontapblog.com/ 2008/ 05/ 16/ global-wildlife-populations-plummeting/A quarter of the world’s wildlife has disappeared since 1970, according to a new report prepared by the Zoological Society of London — a scientific, not political, organization — for the World Wildlife Fund. Before I go any further, let me preempt inevitable comment: This isn’t about global warming.

How gay, precisely, is Clay Aiken?
http://gregoryholman.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 05/ how-gay-precisely-is-clay-aiken.htm…Right this moment, Clay Aiken is hawking his shiny-shoes, North Carolinian self on the Rachel Ray show. Partner Steve and I, gays ourselves, wondered aloud, "Just how gay is that kid?" Is he gayer than green eggs and ham? Gayer than white-trash theme parties serving Cosmos and spam? Gayer than drag queens?

Ancient Land
http://slowmuse.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 05/ 16/ ancient-land/What a relief to spend the last few days in a country that doesn’t have a president named Bush. The cheery Cumbrian men who stopped in to repair a leak in the ceiling listened with patience while we complained about how difficult it is to be an American abroad, and then pointed out that the UK is far from trouble free.
