The Fierce Origin of Mother’s Day: A Lost Story

    http://themoderatevoice.com/ society/ family/ mother/ 19524/ the-fierce-origin-o…

Mother’s Day, as we know it today, is a more or less genteel day of hopefully kind words and sweet sentiments depending on whether one’s family more resembles the Simpsons, the Partridges or a holy family of schmoos. But long ago, Mother’s Day in the US burst forth drenched in blood, and buried in bones and graves.

Gas Prices Send Surge of Riders to Mass Transit - New York Times "“It’s very clear that a significant portion of the increase in transit use is directly caused by people who are looking for alternatives to paying $3.50 a gallon for gas.” Some cities with long-established public transit systems, like New York and Boston, have seen increases in ridership of 5 percent or more so far this year.

    http://freestudents.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 05/ rob-poor-to-subsidize-wealthy.html

The New York Times has a piece on how spiralling petrol prices are sending some commuters to government mass transit programs. What it inadvertently does is also show us what is the problem with such mass transit programs. Basically the argument is that mass transit “are seeing standing-room only crowds”.

There is an article in today's New York Times about how the rise in gas prices are causing more people to ride mass transit. A few weeks ago I tried to figure this out for myself. The break even point for me is for gas to be $5.25 or 5.75 a for it to be worth me taking the light rail to work.

It has been my position for years that George W. Bush should be prosecuted for various capital crimes, not the least of which are the deaths following from his wars of naked aggression in Afghanistan and Iraq. [See: US Codes, Title 18, Section 2441] I have urged that a Federal Grand jury bring indictments against George W.
