Headed up by Detour faves like Maps & Atlases, Anathallo, Child Bite, Deastro, and Great Lakes Myth Society, Midwest Fest 2008 starts tonight! Think of it as a little like Rock City, except in Mount Pleasant, Michigan and at one solitary place (Rubble’s Bar, where Black Flag and R.E.M.

“I’m actually just here for the opening band” is a phrase in the independent music lexicon that, along with “I like their older stuff better,” is slightly pretentious but sometimes completely appropriate.

Marcus and I went to the former the Gypsy Tea Room (now The Door) to see Maps & Atlases on Friday night, and it’s apparent that the owners of the Door have done NOTHING to improve that venue; it’s still the same terrible sounding, awful dump that it always was.  At any rate, Maps & Atlases

You Should Know I usually like bands you can use the word "angular" to describe, and Chicago's Maps & Atlases fits the bill. The band formed in 2004 and they combine mathy instrumentation with melodic vocals.

I'm writing this whilst my iPod struggles and strains under the mighty weight of my BSM computer files and folders. I figured it was time for another backing up session and as I'm currently out of blank DVDs Apple are having to carry the burden. A 10,867 file burden.

Hello worldBusy day today. I was awoken, hungover, at 9am by Stu TTNG calling. He's currently off work with Labrynthitis - which isn't actually a fear of David Bowie or 1980's films, as you may imagine - and wanted to borrow some DVDs. Like most of our conversations this ended with us talking about Maps and Atlases.

Progressive punk ruffians, RX Bandits are out and about for the entire summer; headlining their very own US tour with Portugal the Man and Maps and Atlases. The whole procession promises to be an artsy, alternative bouquet of emerging talent. They come our mid-Atlantic way in July and they hit our new friends in San Francisco in August.
