    Tax Stimulus - Wishful Thinking?

    http://www.financialzen.com/ 2008/ 05/ 16/ tax-stimulus-wishful-thinking/

Well contrary to what the IRS says - I’ve not seen a dime of my so-called “stimulus” check. I had to dig a bit to find the real answer. Mistakes, misfilings, scams… it looks like this package will be less “stimulating” and more like an unexpected gift.

IRS Admits Thousands of More Errors in Rebate Check Processing

    http://www.taxgirl.com/ irs-admits-thousands-of-more-errors-in-rebate-check-proc…

And just when we thought the IRS had a handle on things… After admitting that 350,000 taxpayers were underpaid on their tax rebates because of an omission of the child tax credit, the IRS has another mea culpa: they’ve been misdirecting tax rebates to the wrong accounts.

To be fair to MJ, at least he made sure that his new magazine has a functional website where you can go read the stories to get suitably bored. Then again, going through the stories these guys seem to veering further left of Outlook, the cover is a suitably vicious hachet job on Sharad Pawar.

    Tax Avoidance vs. Tax Evasion

    http://www.aliyahblog.com/ 2008/ 05/ 16/ tax-avoidance-vs-tax-evasion/

I saw a response to my Taxes in Israel II post by “Kalashnikover_Rebbe” on Hashkafa.com: I was actually almost in this situation (in the end I didn’t end up working so it was irrelevant). I would just “neglect to inform” the Israeli government about that income and pay the MUCH lower US taxes.

IRS Admits “Human Error” in Processing Tax Rebates: Child Credit Omitted

    http://www.taxgirl.com/ irs-admits-human-error-in-processing-tax-rebates-child-c…

So, it turns out that I was wrong. But the IRS was more wrong. Way wrong. It turns out that up to 350,000 households did not receive the $300 per child owed them as part of their economic stimulus rebate payments.

About 15,000 Stimulus Payments Sent to the Wrong Accounts

    http://www.bloggingawaydebt.com/ 2008/ 05/ about-15000-stimulus-payments-sent-to…

Some of you have commented that you haven’t received your stimulus payment yet, even though you should have. I just saw this news clip and thought I would pass it on: ABCnews.com According to ABC News, about 15,000 stimulus payments were routed into the incorrect bank account due to a computer error.

No Surprise Here: IRS Data Says More Taxpayers Filed in 2008

    http://www.taxgirl.com/ no-surprise-here-irs-data-says-more-taxpayers-filed-in-2…

The IRS has reported that as of May 3, 2008, more tax returns had been processed than at the same time last year. How many more? About 15 million more to nearly 142 million, an increase of about 11%. And despite what those hold times felt like, the number of phone calls answered by IRS representatives totaled 18.4 million calls, up from 16.2 million calls, an increase of 13.1%.

Some rebates sent to wrong accounts

    http://dontmesswithtaxes.typepad.com/ dont_mess_with_taxes/ 2008/ 05/ some-rebat…

This is definitely not what any of us wanted to hear, but Newsday reports that some economic stimulus checks are showing up in the wrong bank accounts. Although the direct deposit of most of the rebates seem to be going into the appropriate accounts, the Long Island, N.Y., tabloid says some are winding up in the bank accounts of complete strangers.
