Moving day: Yahoo! Mail to Gmail August 25th, 2008 by Sandee Oshiro Cool is overrated, but no one has invented an alternative. I say this as someone whose coolness quotient is wholly dependent on my knowledge of certain cool things. Beyond that, it sort of drags in the mud.

How so? I’ve just published a new post over at www.140char.com on How to back-up your Twitter account and contacts. Although I’m still using Feedeachother as an online RSS reader (Find me, here), I’ve bowed to public opinion and also signed up for Google Reader.

As you know Gmail already provides POP/iMap for your Outlook email service, but Google Calendar and Google Contacts don’t have yet the way to get on your Outlook client as one single solution. (Note that Google provides the Calendar Sync tool to sync your calendar) .

Windows only: If you need to use both Outlook and Google Calendar, free sync utility KiGoo makes the process completely painless. KiGoo displays your Outlook and Google calendar side by side or overlays them to see all your appointments on a single calendar. Changes you make in either Google Calendar or Outlook appear quickly in both.

First, NuevaSync is not an app in the App Store, Cydia or Installer. It is a website that hosts an amazing service. It takes your Google contacts and Calendar and creates a Microsoft Exchange service for you to connect to. Now I’m gonna warn you right away of two things.

A lot of people have been having trouble with the Contacts application in iPhone 2.0 on both first-gen and 3G models. And though lag has been reported throughout much of the iPhone, it is especially apparent in Contacts. But there is a quick fix until this bug is addressed.

What do you guys use for managing your mobile data, such as Contacts, Calendar, etc.? As for me, I am still relying on the good ole' Outlook 2007 for my contacts. I can't seem to let go of a tried and true contact system. Although I do, occasionally, export my contacts as a CSV file into GMAIL Contacts.

The Calgoo team has decided to make the full version of Calgoo 2.0 free. Calgoo is a desktop calendar management application for Windows, Linux, and OS X. It allows you to manage your calendar, and synchronize it with Google Calendar, Outlook (2003 and 2007), 30 Boxes, and iCal.

One of the many noticeable weak areas so far in the iPhone 2.0 software is a certain amount of lag / slowness in various places.  For me, the Contacts application, and in particular the Search portion of it, is one area where this is definitely felt.
