OK, so you’ve got yourself an XML Sitemap, and you’ve told Google where to find your sitemap using Google Webmaster Tools.  So far, you’re well on your way to optimizing your WordPress site. The next thing in your journey to the ultimate in WordPress SEO is telling the Search Engines what they need to index.

Dynamic websites can be a problem, not because the search engines cannot index the content, but because of the way your website is set up, generating an indefinite amount of duplicate content. This problem was addressed in a post I wrote just a few days ago entitled Dynamic Websites: How to Avoid Indexing Duplicate Content.

This is going to be one short post but with the amount of times this topic seems to resurface I thought I would do my due diligence and share it with you. The gist of it all is that they are indicating that there is no real penalty BUT (and a big one) there can be problems.

Search Engines are getting better and better at crawling dynamic websites. Unless you really put your mind to it and do everything you possibly can, dynamic content will get indexed - but that’s not the end of the story. In some cases you’ll have to deal with and manage eliminating duplicate content from the search engines.

Duplicate content is always a subject that interests us, because we (webmasters) are afraid of it. We are afraid to get our content duplicated, we are afraid to get caught by google for duplicate content either by articles that we get from an article site of for having duplicate content on our own websites.

Okay, all domainers and webmasters have different viewpoints on what google does to any site, be it a minisite or a site with thousands of pages, when it comes to duplicate content. Heck, there is even an argument on exactly what duplicate content is and whether a site has duplicate content.

On the Official Google Blog last week, Susan Moskwa took yet another stab at trying to stop the perpetuation of the duplicate content penalty myth.  To quote, “Let’s put this to bed once and for all, folks: There’s no such thing as a ‘duplicate content penalty.’” Like so many other bits of information
