Tonight is do or die for John McCain - this is his absolute last chance to speak directly to the American people, unsuppressed by media filters. And the filters are working overtime, as Patterico demonstrates here: Today John McCain finally began to tell the country about his own efforts to regulate Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and the Democrats’ incredible inaction.

Random Thoughts is writing about what is happening to her finances. No one has defended President Bush more than I have during his time in office. No one. But his signing the “bailout bill” that Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and the rest of them were giddy over this afternoon - it has stunned me.

I never thought I would write a header like that. I despise the insertion of lawyers and courts into election processes, but Al Gore did create the precedent, and after reading this, I’m thinking if the GOP has any brains left (and that is debatable) they’ll start assembling an “army of lawyers” for this election day.

I’ve had several - more than several, actually - emails from both left and right asking me what I think of Gov. Sarah Palin in her performances over the past weeks and what I think will happen at the debate. From the left the missives have been jeering. They remind me a little of Edward G.

I took a quick turn through the ’sphere and at my email and saw a lot of frustration from Republicans, who are getting fed up with the double standards that are standard for the media and the left. Yes, it’s there; yes, it’s every day. Yes, Gwen Ifill is a dreadful choice, a Obama-enthralled partisan moderating a debate, and she should be replaced.

Mr. President, as my dog would tell you, don’t be a chump. You gotta pull some of those knives out your back. I know Bush honors and respects the Office of the presidency; I know he doesn’t want to dishonor it. But to my way of thinking, dealing in “good faith” with those two - this Pelosi, this egregious Reid - is now doing dishonor to that office.

I sniff the wind of change, and it smells noxious and it seems suffocating This child has a lovely voice. The song is creeping me out. “We’re gonna spread happiness! We’re gonna spread freeeeeeedom!

UPDATE: Nancy Pelosi poisoned her own meal ticket. I said it on September 26, and I think I said it first: I am sure that things are in deeply serious and yes, something needs to be done, but there is also something illusory at work here.
