Labor Day weekend was simply gorgeous in Boulder. Lots of sun, not too hot, blue skies. It was a perfect weekend for getting to know my new Rans Stratus XP. Earlier in the week, I picked up a Thule rack and a RockyMounts R4 rack that could handle the 65" wheelbase of my Rans. The bike fit perfectly.

When it rains, it pours. Diana Moskovitz of the Miami Herald reports that two bicyclists were struck yesterday on State Road 84 in Davie. The negligent driver side-swiped the bicyclists and continued driving. Both were sent to the hospital and fortunately were not killed.

It takes a village to raise a child, but apparently it takes only one blogger with a lawyer friend to hobble a whole city’s efforts to encourage bicycling. Wall Street Journal writer Phred Dvorak describes all the sordid details in an article about San Francisco resident Rob Anderson, who has almost single-handedly stopped the city’s pro-bicycle plans cold.

Summer Streets, the city experiment that for three Saturdays this month closed off long stretches of Park Avenue and other streets to cars and trucks, came to an end this weekend.

Today, finally, after saving many nickels and dimes, I bought a Rans Stratus XP. I don't actually have it in hand as it is being configured with a rack, fenders, a small mirror and some different tires. I'll pick it up next Saturday, assuming I can get a roof rack for my car and an appropriately long bike rack for the roof by then.
