Ford has cooked up a new one for the 2009 Mustang — a glass roof. Similar to Porsche’s Targa, the 3’x3’ sheet of double-paned glass is a pretty neat trick, giving the illusion of a vastly spacious interior and letting in all the light of a convertible.

What's this? News about less Mustangs? Mustang guru Brad Barnett has learned that Mustang marketing manager Fritz Wilke estimates only 45,000 Mustangs will be produced for the 2009 model year. We don't know if the 45 is symbolic of the 45th anniversary of Ford's pony car, but it's significantly less than any other year the Mustang has been produced.

If you're crazy enough about Ford's muscle car that you actually want a 2009 Mustang, as opposed to waiting for the brand new 2010 Ford Mustang, you'll have to fight over just 45,000 of them. If that seems like a lot, we'd remind you that they sold more than 130,000 Stangs last year.

Turns out when we posted a photo of the 2009 Ford Mustang badge it rung a bell with Jaloper James Kenney, who has a quick eye and an even quicker shutter. This 45th Anniversary Edition 2009 Ford Mustang was sitting in the driveway in a neighborhood (should have put it in the garage).
