Which NFL Team Did the Best in 2011 NFL Draft?
Now that the 2011 NFL draft is over, and football fans are in a state of limbo as the labor dispute will be handled by the courts, we have a little time to see which team did the best job drafting players.
Without a doubt the consensus seems to be that the Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers turned in the best 2011 NFL Draft class. Despite picking at the back of each round the Packers look to have landed four future starters, and while every pick was made for value they really addressed their team needs.
In round One they took OT Derek Sherrod from Mississippi State. He will get a chance to be a starter by year two. WR Randall Cobb was taken in the second round and he is a very versatile player who draws comparisons to Percy Harvin. Running Back Alex Green was their third round selection and many draft experts think he is much underrated. Fourth Round selection DB Davon House has the size/speed combination to be a starter.
Without a doubt those four players will make a big impact on this team. However, I would not be surprised if Seventh Round pick DL Lawrence Guy or Sixth round pick DE Ricky Elmore grow into spots on this team and provide big impacts as well.
After the Packers it really looks like the Detroit Lions did an excellent job building up their roster. As a lifelong Lions fan I can say this was not a very popular draft, but it looks like Lions’ General Manger Martin Mayhew really is sticking to a long term plan.
Let us not forget that this is a team still rebuilding itself after a decade worth of bad decisions by former GM Matt Millen. This draft was a clear effort by the Lions to secure more positions on their field, get younger, and give their QB, Matt Stafford, a lot of down the field weapons.Continued on the next page
