NY Jets Blow Out Buffalo Bills 38-14
The New York Jets, in a dominate performance over Buffalo, defeated the Bills 38-14.
Mark Sanchez was 14-24 for 161 yards and two touchdowns, including a 41-yard pass to Braylon Edwards in a game blown open by three scores within the third quarter. In the last three games Sanchez has thrown for eight touchdowns and no interceptions.
LaDainian Tomlinson, passing Tony Dorsett’s rushing record, racked up 133 rushing yards, including a 26-yard drive and two touchdowns. Tomlinson averaged 7 yards per his 19 carries. Brad Smith, receiver turned quarterback, connected with Dustin Keller for a TD, quickly followed by Sanchez finding Keller again for 6. Tomlinson and Shonn Greene each went for over 100 yards.
The lackluster Buffalo Bills, led by quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, connected to David Martin at the end of the second quarter, as well as Steve Johnson in the fourth. During their first four possessions, the Bills failed to muster up much fight, managing only 30 yards and one first down.
During the post-game, Sanchez said he responded to requests to get the running game going, while the coach looked forward to games outside the division.
“Now we have a chance to play a few of the games outside and rack up our wins. We’ve got another great opponent coming in and we’re going to rest and get ready to play,” said Rex Ryan, wearing pink shoes to support the fight against breast cancer, and joking about Brad Smith’s touchdown pass. "I heard we have a quarterback controversy. But I think we’ll keep Sanchez going.”
The divisional race now belongs to the Jets. Sanchez meets Favre in Monday night action next week. They will be playing the Minnesota Vikings, Monday 10/11, at 8:30pm EDT at the Meadowlands Stadium.
