Fantasy Football Rankings Watch - TIGHT END – Early August
· Rob Gronkowski – TE#6 – GIG: 68.4
Gronkowski is benefiting from a stronger offense around him. Most of his fantasy value comes from the incredible red zone production that he offers. With the Patriots offense adding additional weapons, Gronkowski figures to see additional red zone opportunities (and conversions.)
· Greg Olsen - TE#11 – GIG: 61.5
Greg Olsen was traded from the Chicago Bears to the Carolina Panthers. Chicago’s offense under Mike Martz de-emphasized the tight end position. Olsen’s move to Carolina puts him in a more scheme friendly environment and young quarterbacks have a history of relying more heavily on their tight ends.
· Tony Moeaki - TE#16 – GIG: 55.3
Tony Moeaki sees a slight increase in value due to the improving team around him. The addition of stronger weapons at the wide receiver position will mean additional offensive snaps team wide. This is a “rising tide lifts all boats” scenario.
· Lance Kendricks – TE:30 - GIG:41.9
Lance Kendricks has had an opportunity to play with the starters in St. Louis this summer, and he has not looked out of place. The Rams are a young team, who figure to allow their talented young draft picks to grow and develop on the field – much the same way that Tampa Bay has been doing. Kendricks is still has only “waiver wire” value, but he is someone to watch in dynasty formats and deep 14 & 16 team leagues.
· John Carlson – TE#26 – GIG: 37.6
John Carlson went from a Tier ranked fantasy addition – to the top of the waiver wire bucket. The Seahawks added Zach Miller, who is a more dynamic downfield receiving option. Pete Carroll has said that they will use both TEs, which is likely true, but they will not use them enough to make Carlson worth a fantasy roster spot.
