Tigers Make It To The Asia Cup Final In Cricket - Page 2
When Tamim and Shakib were out in quick succession, Mahmudullah, the vice captain joined the ever dependable Nasir Hossain. Nasir was visibly struggling against the master bowler Malinga, but Mahmudulah guided him and it was good to see the vice captain in that role. Mahmudullah is a player with great potential, however, he had been struggling for some time, but when his team needed he delivered, and the duo brought the team home.
Some might think today’s mini scare, the team losing three early wickets, might have been caused by the Bangladesh skipper’s wrong decision to promote himself in the batting order. Despite his stature, perhaps he is the most attacking batsman the team has, and his skill is much needed to finish the game at closing stages. Mushfiqur has uncanny ability to speed up the game, as was clearly seen against the match versus India; his early dismissal can make the team handicap.
This victory was a team effort for the tigers where everybody raised their games, and played for the country, Both Tamim and Shakib had been stellar performers in this tournament, yet Tamim was not even in the initial team that was selected for this tournament, because he had lost the favor of Mustafa Kamal, the Bangladesh cricket supremo. Akram Khan, the master-brain of Bangladesh cricket resigned from the position of Chief Selector protesting the interference of pea-brained Mustafa Kamal, the BCB chief. It took the intervention of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to bring Akram back to his position, and include Tamim in the team. Sheikh Hasina must have been very proud with her action, as she was seen standing up in the stadium at the team’s victory, and beaming—thank you prime minister!
What chances the tigers do have in the final? Given their form they can be the champion, only if they believe in themselves, and keep their cool, like they did today.
