The Original King of Football Pele Possibly Playing for Santos Again
Undeniably, the legendary Brazilian will live on. However, the resurrection of the legend of Pele one more time sounds incredible yet, you start yearning for the same news to positively ripen even as the recollection of the moments and memories that had trapped the exploits on the football pitch of the man nicknamed 'O Rei' (The King) to redefine the height of glory, come flooding into the mind. Football fans those who had missed out on witnessing the unleashing of Pele magic live because they were too young at that time, however, possibly have caught a whiff of the air when Pele ruled through captured instances aided by technology. And it is hardly any difficult to figure out albeit impossible to fathom what stuff the scorer of 1,281 career goals, is made of.
Watching Pele in action at the age of 71 would still, definitely be something. And the Santos Club president Luis Alvaro de Oliveira Ribeiro’s idea of involving the original king of football during the December 8-18 competition for continental champions – 2011 Club World Cup – in Japan that will also feature Barcelona is nothing short of a masterstroke. Very understandably, football fans must be wishing hard that Ribeiro’s proposal fruitions.
What’s more persuasive is that Santos coach Muricy Ramalho is all convinced to offer a slot in the squad to Pele even as “The King” is positive and has promised to train and get fit with the aim to participate for a few minutes, although, the final confirmation is awaited from him. If everything goes as planned, Pele would be donning his “own” No. 10 shirt.
Interestingly, the underlying inspiration behind Ribeiro’s idea is that Pele was a three-time world champion with the national team, but only twice with Santos. And after 48 years, this could prove to be the opportunity to be three-time world champion at the club level as well; as part of Santos.
