Reds Agree Carroll Fee with Newcastle
As of about 12:45 EST Liverpool have announced the capture of 22-year old former Newcastle Striker Andy Carroll. The reported fee for the Englishman is £35 Million and is the new transfer record for the Goordie club. The folks on the Toon will be heartbroken to see their young star go, but those on Merseyside will rejoice as Carroll is now set to partner with Luis Suarez in the newest strike duo assembled in the Premiership. The size and power of Carroll will pair hand in hand with the skill and prowess of the young Uruguayan Suarez.
With this deal apparently now scuppered and only awaiting personal terms and a medical, it looks as though Fernando Torres will be making his trip south to London to join former Liverpool team mate Yossi Benayoun as a Chelsea Blue. The deal for Torres looks to be between £50-£70 Million Pounds as reported by the Daily Mirror and ESPNsoccernet.com.
The Former Liverpool No. 9 (Torres) looks to have his replacement in line for his stop and his number as Carroll wore the No. 9 as a Magpie. The new Liverpool owners have certainly created excitement for their fans, players, and for their manager. King Kenny spoke in his press conference this morning about how Ian Rush left the team(as compared to Torres) and then came from Juventus the next year. The point was the team became stronger after his departure.
Liverpool have Official Announced the signing of Andy Carroll from Newcastle United.
This certainly looks to be possible as a nearly 28- year old Torres with already 10 years of first team miles makes way for a 23-year old (Suarez) and a 22-year old (Carroll). The new injection of youth upfront combined with their strike rates and desires to win should give Kenny Dalglish a refreshing new front line that will be hungry to feed. This truly could be a much more interesting last 14 games of the season.
It is also reported that Liverpool are still deadline chasing Charlie Adam, and as now in a bidding war between themselves and Manchester United.
