Is 2013 Tarkanian's Year for the Hall? - Page 4
An official effort to call attention to Tarkanian’s omission from the Hall of Fame began last year when a group of supporters and UNLV Alumni created a Facebook page to muster the troops. As a leader of that group, things are progressing at a faster pace today than ever before.
Tarkanian’s family members are supporting the effort and former players, journalists, and even celebrities are starting to help in the effort. Just this week, ESPN personality and former UNLV quarterback Kenny Mayne used the power of his large social network on Twitter to call attention to the effort.
“It was just brought to my attention that Tark is not in the bball HOF,” Mayne Tweeted. “I protest. New ballots out soon.”
Mayne also reached out to documented UNLV and Tarkanian fan, and late night talk show host, Jimmy Kimmel.
“Surely…former LV resident & latter day Rat Pack member @jimmykimmel will be on board.”
Over the next 90 days, we’ll see if the effort does enough to get the voters to pay attention. With a formal effort to make sure his accomplishments are accurately framed, the push is stronger and more widely supported than ever.
No man or woman is without fault or sin. That doesn’t mean anyone should deny them their due when it comes to professional accomplishments. 2013 must be the year Jerry Tarkanian finally is honored for what he did on the court and how he changed basketball forever.
