The Revamped Facebook Messages is Now Here
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of social network giant Facebook, announced late last year that they will be unveiling a “Messages” makeover that will provide their avid users a “@facebook.com” email address. The wait is now over and you should be able to notice a “Claim your Facebook email” message when you log on to your Facebook account and click on Messages on your dashboard.
Facebook users are encouraged to claim their Facebook email address as it offers promising features. Chief among them is the complete integration of your Facebook email with Facebook messages, chats, and texts which you can now monitor in one place. Facebook email is compatible with traditional email systems so when people sends you messages from their Hotmail, Yahoo, or Gmail you will be able to receive them directly on your Facebook Messages. The same thing goes when you send them messages from your Facebook Messages. Your recipients will receive your email in Facebook message format.
One of the benefits of this service, aside from the fact that it is free, is that it also reaches out to family and friends who are not able to connect with you since they are not on Facebook yet. Now, you do not need to “force” people to get them connected on Facebook. You simply provide them with your @facebook.com email address and they can now send you messages using their preferred email system.
Although the functionality of the Facebook Messages is similar to email, Facebook is claiming that it is not as they have modeled it more after the chat platform. It is a type of a messaging system that evolved over traditional email in a sense that email itself is just a part of it. It is also not an “email killer” as previously depicted during the initial press announcements. So what are you waiting for? Claim that Facebook email of yours and give it a spin.
