Facebook Axes Social Stalker App?
You know who you are:
That damn Kyle has been dating that hottie Tisha for almost three months now. You are so much better for her than that tool. It seems like every friggin' time you try and swoop in after one of her breakups, someone has swooped in and stolen her away, again.
Worry no more, stalkers, err, social networkers! It's Dan Loewenherz to the rescue! Actually, he credits his mother-in-law for the inspiration for the new Facebook App he developed: "Breakup Notifier".
Loewenherz: Last Friday I was relaxing with my fiancé and her mom. They were discussing a guy to set up with my fiancé's sister, they looked him up on Facebook and he was taken! They were dejected, but for whatever reason, I thought it would be cool if they could get an e-mail alert when his relationship status changed to single. On Saturday I spent about 4 hours making the application, designing it, programming, and setting up the domain name. Didn't really tell anyone until Sunday, and after that, it exploded in popularity.
The last time Dan was able to check the application's user number, it was at 10,000. That was this past Sunday, February 20th, 2011. And, that data was two days behind..
"Breakup Notifier" works like this: You log into your Facebook account, then log into the "Breakup Notifier" application. Once within the application, you are able to select the various people you'd like to stalk, err, keep up with. When a relationship status change is initiated by the selected person(s), you receive a notification. Presto! Now you can swoop in and get that guy or girl of your dreams! Maybe.
Apparently, Facebook was not amused. According to a source, unconfirmed, from the Facebook Platform Team, via Hacker News, Facebook automatically shuts down applications that receive a large number of complaints, but (says) that Facebook has been in contact with the developer (Loewenherz), and hopes to resolve these issues and get "Breakup Notifier" up and running again.Continued on the next page
