Defining Effectiveness and Talent in an Educator - Page 2
Policy makers define effectiveness differently than educators do. Effectiveness to them means that all students pass the test. Effectiveness to educators means that we help students connect and engage in the learning process. This is not done solely by teaching to a test and determining a students and a teachers worth on its score. Policy makers define a teacher’s talent by his/her ability to get his/her students to score a certain number on a test but educators define talent by his/her ability to engage a child in life and help them see the power and possibility an education opens for them. Effective educators do not teach a child to take a test. Instead they teach students how to live with vibrancy, creativity, and a continued desire to learn new ways to shape their world. We welcome a fair way to evaluate our effectiveness and talent as long as we can agree on the terms.
