a whole block of stores (including one of the Stainless Studios locations). It was sad to see pictures of these buildings which were so familiar to me gutted by fire and destroyed. Check out the Torontoist for some amazing (and sad) pictures here and here. Each time I return to the city I see more and more buildings renovated on the hip Queen West strip to house more and more un-hip stores. Now I hear that the mighty Home Depot is scheduled to move into the parking lot just down the street from the

Fire & Ice
everything is gone, it'll be bad enough to see a gigantic hole on my Beautiful Queen and I'm sure the last thing they need is one more gawker down there. There are some amazing nighttime shots of the aftermath here, and the photo above I nabbed from Torontoist, they have more great photos.

Vaatasin pisut telerist, kuidas külmaga vesi oli jääpurikaid tekitanud,

for the next couple of books I was about to read, and I would have taken my balascarfa from the closet when I took my coat and gloves. Everything else would have seemed insignificant. toronto is burning
from the St. Andrews subway to the cbc building at 8:00am you could both see and smell the smoke. At the end of the day, the smell was even stronger. My daughter works a block from the fire, here account is here. There are photos on the torontoist here and here. The area was recently designated a heritage conservation district. One of the businesses lost - their building is one that collapsed is dukes - the oldest bicycle shop in Toronto if not Canada - 94years [check out the photo on their home
