May 8, 2008 - Liberty in America is not quite as revered as its leaders pretendNO OTHER country puts as much emphasis on ?freedom? as the United States. Patrick Henry demanded ?liberty or death?. The national anthem calls America ?the land of the free?. Great reformers from Abraham Lincoln to Martin Luther King have urged America to live up to its ideal of ?freedom?. When a group of French Americanophiles wanted to flatter the United States, they sent the Statue of Liberty.And no other country boasts as much about its mission to give freedom to the rest of the world. in relation to stepping on the freedoms of its people. I believe the pendulum needs to swing back towards liberty, away from large and overzealous government. Given the historical stance of the U.S. as the land of the free, it is important to analyze some of the areas where we are coming up short. I do not believe this article is exhaustive, but I do believe it brings up some critical issues. 2. In relation to the above, I though it was very interesting to check out the Index of Economic Freedom as calculated by the Heritage Foundation.
