Photo by The Alieness GiselaGiardino23 Paul Coelho sold over 100 million books last year. The author of The Alchemist and The Witch of Portobello wanted people to try his books for free but knew some of his publishers wouldn’t want to give his work away. So he decided to become a pirate. He started a blog called Pirate Coelho and began uploading copies of his books onto BitTorrent, FTP sites and Rapidshare. And then his sales started climbing. So much so, in fact, that Harper Collins decided to offer readers a free Coelho book every month.
