TravelSkoot: Another Google Maps Mashup to Digest
http://www.imeshedup.com/travelskoot-another-google-maps-mas...TravelSkoot: Another Google Maps Mashup to Digest June 2, 2008 · Filed Under Mashable · Comment Google Maps mashups have been done and re-done… and done yet again. There is even a Google Maps social network with YouTube videos that is slowly evolving. But apparently the hype is not over just yet. TravelSkoot is a new Google map mashup site that allows users to “skoot” or plot points on a map that show travel plans, tours, or favorite places. A skoot can be created for places you’re going, places you’ve been, or places you want your friends to visit. You can even search skoots created by other users who have toured around a certain city. Already on the move? TravelSkoot can also be viewed on WAP enabled phones. The site, which is currently still in beta, can list locations by themes, i.e. concerts you’ve attended, good bagel shops in the area, and top-rated hair salons. Once you have created your skoots, you can save your widget and uploaded to your personal site, Facebook page, MySpace profile, and more. I see a few ups and downs with this skooting business. On the up side, TravelSkoot is great for creating itineraries and day-trips or seeing those created by others. It works for exploring cities you have never traveled to, and I like the feature that automatically generates driving directions if you have more than one point on the map. On the down side, however, TravelSkoot fails to show me how it stacks up against the countless Google Maps mashups; perhaps even Google Maps itself. Plotting restaurants? Driving directions? Sharing with friends? Sigh. TravelSkoot is going to have to get a little more creative then just a catchy name if it’s going to want to grab attention. Tags:

2008 - Urban
http://saltsjo.blogspot.com/2008/05/2008-urban.htmlDN Headline:Swedish - Här tändes strejkgnistanEnglish - Here the (nurses) strike sparks are lit Dinner last night: Hamburgers, sweet potato fries, pumpkin pie w/whipped cream. You Americans can run up to your grocery store and buy a ready-made pumpkin pie probably just about any time of the year. But they don’t do pumpkin pies here, so I have to make my own, which I hardly ever did in the past because you couldn’t find the cans of pumpkin. Finally (well, starting maybe 2 years ago at the big stores, not mine) they have it. And it has taken me this long to get around to making one. JUST when Hasse would much rather I make him some rhubarb crisp! Sorry, Hasse! But he would never turn away a piece of pie! Since I can’t get a yummy, flaky American style crust (no Crisco here), I tried the crust Cindy Crawford uses in her Strawberry-Rhubarb Pie recipe (originally from Saveur magazine). It’s basically the same as my grandmother used, I think, with vegetable oil. I didn't even try to flute the edges. They also don’t have evaporated milk here (for the pie), as far as I can tell, so I used a type of cooking cream (matlagningsgrädde – 15%). All-in-all, it worked out fine. Oink, oink. Google Health: Google Health’s in beta now. I don’t know… Can’t you just see the lawsuits comin’… ? I can’t quite imagine this working in America, government-sponsored OR privately-sponsored. Could be wrong, of course. The beginning and The end: Our white lilacs just before they pop open and our cherry tree blossoms just before they fall off the tree. Sunday Fun 17 Google Maps Mashups To Waste Away Your Day Images galore: Here’s the wonderful Digital Image Resources on the Deep Web including “one of the largest WWII U.S. Military photo archives” here: http://go.footnote.com/militaryphotos. WOW!: Tasmanian tiger DNA comes alive in mouse - “A University of Melbourne team has broken new ground, extracting genes from the extinct tasmanian tiger and bringing them back to life in another living creature.” The walrus, up close. Neat!: Who Is the Walrus? Clueless in Leeds: UK's 'dumbest criminal' given YouTube ASBO ban - "Andrew Kellett, 23, was branded the city’s “dumbest criminal” by Leeds City Council after posting more than 80 videos showing himself and others committing a range of offences. The videos included leaving a petrol station apparently without paying, trespassing and shouting abuse, dangerous driving and racing at high speeds and the taking of class A drugs." Stuck in my head: The past two days it has been “Chances Are” by Johnny Mathis running rampant in my brain. Don’t know why. What incredibly romantic music he made with that beautiful voice! I had no idea if he was still even entertaining and was looking for “Chances Are” in YouTube and found this one from January! He does some of “Chances Are” and some of “Misty” (spoiled only by the introduction by Katie Couric, who is not my favorite). Anyway, turns out he’s alive and well and touring. Good!
