Peoples referendum on Germanys oldest airport
http://ccoaler.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 04/ httpnews.html
http://news.de.msn.com/politik/Article.aspx?cp-documentid=8183700 Leftparty's (ex communists) Gysi supported the continuation of Tempelhof. Mayor Wowereit (Social Dems) wanted it closed. Berlins mayor Wowereit got thru with what he wanted: The peoples referendum on the airport Tempelhof has the following result: no continuation of service. THOUGH: Wowereit underestimated this form of direct democracy. Colleagues in his party will remember this failure. No continuation of Tempelhof. Only half a million and with this too less voters - hardly a quarter of the total number of voters - voted for the 'application' to keep operations up at Germany's oldest airport.
