  深夜加油站遇見...糖? 由 Atticus Wu 於 May 13th 2008 @ 6:00AM 發表 酵母菌 + 糖 + 水 = 酒精...不好意思, 有點簡化過頭了, 不過由 E-Fuel Corporation 發展出的新型加油 酒精 糖機, 用的就是這個極為基礎但效率不高的能量產生方式, 當然要的不是 ATP, 是濃度 100% 的乙醇燃料 (E100 Ethanol). 這個容量 35 加崙加酒精機, 靠的就是一堆酵母菌, 加上某濃度的糖水, 約莫在一週內就可以充滿整個酒槽 酒精燃料槽, 而當中酒精 vs 糖的轉換比例, 大約是 1:10, 也就是 10 加崙的糖可以產生 1 加崙的酒精. ( 就莫爾當量來說, 這糖水的濃度應該不會太低才是...有興趣的讀者可以算一下XD ) 這東西據說將來的目標是讓家家都有酒喝 酒精燃料用... 不過這機器目前的安裝成本, 高達 9,995 美元, 也就是三十幾萬台幣, 而 E-Fuel Corporation 則是希望聯邦, 各州 (美國啦! ) 政府的適當補貼之下, 以及透過各種減碳相關的優惠政策, 能夠讓安裝成本降低到一半左右. 不過如果您躍躍欲試, 據說第四季就會出貨了! 出到台灣? 請各位自行跟他們連絡吧!   Zwar nicht auf Bäumen aber mit etwas finanziellen Einsatz im eigenen Garten. Mit dem Micro Fueler von E-Fuel wird dies möglich. Im Innern wird durch Zucker, Wasser und Hefe durch Fermentierung Bioethanol gewonnen. Laut E-Fuel kann schon binnen weniger Stunden gezapft werden. Nach einer Woche soll die Menge von 35 Gallonen gebraut worden sein, was etwa 132 Litern entspricht. Wer die Anschaffungskosten von runden 10 000$ nicht scheut kann also bald sein Auto mit Würfelzucker füttern. [via Engadget]

Not sure I’d care to spend TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS after paying a premium for a hybrid (though it’ll pay for the difference soon enough), but I’d like the days of my life back that I’ve spent sitting in line waiting to fill up at the gas station.
