Replacing the term “Rust Belt” 17th April 2008 On Outside Erie recently, there was a contest to come up with a new slogan for Erie, the winner was “Great Lake, Great City, Great Life“. Now, we need a new term for what was originally called the “Rust Belt”. Danny Lucas says: Who among us likes the term “rust belt”? Yet, too many of us in the region that formerly was an industrial powerhouse second to none, use that lamentable term ourselves.Rouch was wise to get that out nationally that the term is inappropriate. But he missed a swell opportunity to replace the old term, “rust belt” with a new “sound bite” term.
