Boston Red Sox News & Notes - 5/9

Josh Beckett went out and did just what the Boston Red Sox needed from him. A nice solid pitching effort on the mound. In the process, he also picked up his 1,000 strikeout in his career. The offense helped him out as well, getting him 3 runs in the 2nd inning and 2 in the 5th after he gave up a run in the 4th. That’s all he would need as he set down the last 10 batters he faced on the night. “It’s a cool milestone,” said Beckett, who reached the mark by fanning Brandon Inge on a 93 mph fastball to begin the seventh inning. “It means you’ve stuck around for a while and got your share.” Heidi Watney is embracing Red Sox Nation.
