Savage: âIn 99 percent of the cases' of autism, âit's a brat who hasn't been told to cut the act out.' Filed Under: Radical Right By Ben on Jul 17th, 2008 at 5:50 pm Savage: âIn 99 percent of the cases' of autism, âit's a brat who hasn't been told to cut the act out.' Yesterday on his radio show, right wing talker Michael Savage said that autism is "a fraud" and "a racket" and that "in 99 percent of the cases, it's a brat who hasn't been told to cut the act out." Savage then asserted that all these "brat[s]" need as a father to tell them to "stop acting like a putz": That's what autism is.

Savage Language, To What End I Do Not Know
http://www.autismvox.com/savage-language-to-what-end-i-do-no...It seems no wonder that right wing talker Michael Savages last name is, well, Savage after reading what he said about autism on his radio show. Ill list the words he uses to refer to autism: moron, putz, idiot, fool, dummy, a girl, losers, beaten men

Savage Child Rearing Advice
http://echidneofthesnakes.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.ht...Remember the post in which we all discussed what being "a real man" means? It's almost as if wingnut Michael Savage wanted to chip in to that conversation when he went on a rant about autism: That's what autism is. What do you mean they scream

Michael Savage calls autistic kids ‘brats,’ autism ‘a fraud’
http://autism.freedomblogging.com/2008/07/21/michael-savage/The “refrigerator mom” is long gone. But are some commentators now trying to blame autism on bad fathering? According to a liberal watchdog group, the conservative talk show host Michael Savage — whose 10 million listeners make him the third most listened to radio host — called autism a fraud and a racket. “I’ll tell you what autism is. In 99 percent of the cases, it’s a brat who hasn’t been told to cut the act out. They don’t have a father around to tell them, ‘Don’t act like a moron. You’ll get nowhere in life. Stop acting like a putz. Act like a man.” (There’s more if you have a strong stomach.) The Web site Autismparents has his “apology.” Media Matters for America — a liberal group focusing on media criticism — has links for every station on which Michael Savage appears, making it very easy to complain to each program director if you’re upset. [UPDATE: Savage responds. An attempt to “boldly awaken parents and children” to “cartel of doctors and drug companies.”] [UPDATE: A range of reactions Monday] Is autism overdiagnosed? Yes, it's just the disorder du jour. Mostly not -- there may be a few cases here and there, but the epidemic is real. No, doctors get it just right. It's actually underdiagnosed. View Results

Autistics Probably Not Faking It
http://www.foreigndignitary.com/?p=152Right-wing talk show host Michael Savage says that autism is a “fraud” and “racket” and that “99 percent” of kids with autism are faking it. I’m not a professional psychologist or anything, but I doubt that’s so. It’s possible that in Savage’s youth, the autistic guys were always bullying the football players and dating the hottest girls. But in my experience, autistic kids weren’t actually all that popular, and there wouldn’t seem to be much profit in faking it. Although, if he’s right, you have to give credit to the millions of fake-autistics who’ve sustained the act for their entire lives without any discernible motive whatsoever. Forget method-acting, that’s some real dedication to the role.

A Savage Fool “Speaks Out” On Autism
http://www.hokiehope.com/2008/07/a-savage-fool-speaks-out-on...Hope you are sitting down for this one! Michael Savage, a right-wing radio host has determined that: weak, feminized fathers who do not berate and humiliate their children are the cause of autism. Alternatively, according to this paragon of wisdom, autism is just a "fraud." Wow! You have to read and hear his words to believe that I am not exaggerating. Apparently, following his undeniable "logic," if at the first signs of autism, at say 6-18 months when most children, I mean, infants/toddlers are diagnosed, we as a country should scrap EI services in favor of a new military model of working with young children. Remove those children from sorry sensitive men, and give them over to institutions that will not put up with wining, crying and cringing. I can hear the future "teachers" of these children now: "Alright lets all crawl in formation, if you wet that diaper one more time, I want 10 push ups, and do not even think of asking for your mother (that is assuming your verbal skill permit making such a request.) He repeatedly refers to his father as a model of parenting. Use of the word "fool" applied to the little savage seemed to a prominent part of his upbringing. Well his Daddy would be so proud to see he succeeded in raising a total savage fool. The only silver lining is that he makes Nanette Asimov look thoughtful and balanced. Source: Charles Fox
