Both parents worked and my father worked overtime as much as possible to earn a little extra cash to provide a few niceties we otherwise wouldn’t have been able to afford. I grew up with a fairly simple philosophy: 1.) love thy neighbor as thyself (from church 3 times a week) and 2.) Never give up once you start something, even if it’s hard. The former has shaped my politics and influenced my ultimate career path. The latter is why I worked 30+ hours in the school year and two jobs in the summer to pay my way to college.
