McCain Stays Silent On Hagees Homophobic Slurs
http://thinkprogress.org/ 2008/ 05/ 09/ mccain-hagee-slurs/
Earlier this week, right wing pastor John Hagee, a supporter of Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), re-embraced his oft-repeated belief that Hurricane Katrina represented "the curse of God" for the sins of New Orleans. Though the media have put McCain on the spot over Hagee's characterization of the Catholic Church as "the Great Whore," they have been reticent to press McCain on Hagee's homophobic comments. To his credit, Fox News's Bill O'Reilly asked McCain last night about the "bad things" Hagee has said "about Catholics and gays and other things like that." McCain only repudiated the statements about the Catholic church, however, tacitly refusing to denounce Hagee's despicable homophobic slurs: O'REILLY: OK.

on Pastors in your Past...or Present
http://troyshouse.blogspot.com/2008/05/on-pastors-in-your-pa...Let us pray for Barak Obama as Reverend Jeremiah Wright, the long-time pastor of the Chicago church where he went to pray and connect with his community suddenly resurfaces. The reverend who, instead of the familiar invocation "God bless America," said "God damn America," and of course that is impossible for the new chosen land and its people. Obama's own side quickly rounded back on him, attacking him viciously for having attended such a Reverend's church. Mrs. Clinton loves to raise this again and again. Let us pray for her too, obviously suffering from amnesia, forgetting that she and her husband attended spiritual gatherings with the very same man. But let us superpray for John McCain. Let us pray that his religious fervour and his pastors sweep him into office behind the evangelical G.W Bush. Let us pray that their biblical message of peace on earth will once again reign for four more years. Let us pray, press play:

Re: McCain refuses to repudiate Hagee completely
http://greensboring.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=8118By: C. Alice I wrote what I wrote about Hillary not stopping her hubby ( for whom I voted both times and supported) from signing those damaging and divisive anti-gay pieces of legislation because I seem to remember them describing theirs as a " co-presidency." Ms Clinton may appear at Pride parades but she only seems to talk about the LGBT community when she's speaking before an LGBT group wich checkbooks at the ready- like Empre State Pride. Any other time it's as if the community does not exist and I think that's a shame. McAint is a nutjob and any democrat who would vote for him because they "don't like Obama" needs a serious swift kick to kock their heads loose from their buttcheeks. By: beth Yes in a double blind scientific study. Hey theres alot of crap out there on Obama that doesn't make him look so hot. Right now though I don't argue against either of them. I'd much more prefer Clinton, but unless she's got something up her sleeve I will confess defeat, and admit it doesn't appear I'm going to have a choice in the matter. The problem is alot of people are going to vote for McCain because they don't want Obama. It's almost the reverse opposite of what Sanjuro suggested from the Clinton supporters I've spoken with. I, myself will support Obama. I like the guy and though I consider him the "riskier" option, I sure as hell won't vote for Mccain. I will move to another country if he wins, (or try my hardest too) and that's not a cliche I casually throw around like other people do. This Week on the Weasel Wagon
http://desertbeacon.blogspot.com/2008/05/this-week-on-weasel...Since Senator McCain has taken flippity-flopping to such heights that he is in a class by himself, and would monopolize the Desert Beacon Sunday Deck Bass to the exclusion of all other worthy candidates for northern Nevada’s least coveted award, it’s probably a good idea to periodically give him his very own post: This week on the Senator John Sidney McCain III’s (R-AZ) Weasel Wagon. * Doug Goodyear, the individual selected to manage the 2008 Republican National Convention by the McCain campaign resigned May 10th after it was publicized that his lobby shop, DCI, used to represent the military regime in Myanmar. [TPM] DCI has also done ‘consulting’ work for Exxon-Mobil, General Motors and other clients. [Nwswk] Goodyear formerly represented R.J Reynolds before joining the DCI group, “and was instrumental in creating the Ramhurst Corporation which received funds from R.J. Reynolds “to ensure that tobacco industry efforts in Washington were supported by and coordinated with RJR’s nation-wide fake grassroots operations in 1993.” [SrcWtch] DCI also publishes the “Tech Central Station,” website that broadcasts global warming denial materials sponsored by Exxon-Mobil and General Motors. [SrcWtch] * Doug Davenport, a McCain campaign aide tendered his resignation May 11th for essentially the same reasons – connections to DCI and the Myanmar Junta. [Politico] * During the 2000 presidential campaign Arizona Senator John McCain was critical of George W. Bush for not considering exceptions for rape, incest, and a mother’s health in the Republican platform plank on abortion. ABC quotes an un-named ‘senior Republican’ close to the McCain campaign as indicating this round the Senator will not object to the plank, the same as that in the 2000 platform. [ABC] Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, told ABC that if McCain made changes it would be “political suicide.” [via TP] * The Arizona solon is content to abjure comments by the right wing pastor Rev. John Hagee about the Catholic Church being the “Great Whore of Babylon,” however he has yet to disavow Hagee’s comments about Hurricane Katrina being the hand of God slamming down New Orleans for planning a Gay Pride Parade. [TP] For his part, Hagee seemed to temper his comments [LAT] before the Dallas Morning News picked up a conference call in which “a woman on the call asked why he seemed to have backed away from his Katrina comments in face of criticism, Hagee said he hadn't. As for the Katrina, he said, God controls hurricanes and "God always punishes unconfessed sin." [DMN] * Senator McCain has yet to be called upon in any serious way to comment on another right wing pastor’s comments. The Rev. Rod Parsley of the World Harvest Church: “Parsley claims that Islam is an "anti-Christ religion" predicated on "deception." The Muslim prophet Muhammad, he writes, "received revelations from demons and not from the true God." And he emphasizes this point: "Allah was a demon spirit." Parsley does not differentiate between violent Islamic extremists and other followers of the religion: There are some, of course, who will say that the violence I cite is the exception and not the rule. I beg to differ. I will counter, respectfully, that what some call "extremists" are instead mainstream believers who are drawing from the well at the very heart of Islam.” [MoJo] * It is one thing for candidate McCain to pledge to get rid of ‘pork barrel laden bills’ and abolish earmarks – but quite another to schedule campaign events at sites like the Liberty Science Center in New Jersey which has been “the beneficiary of multiple federal earmarks.” [TP] * Senator McCain either did, or didn’t, vote for George W. Bush in 2000 – depending on the ‘moment’ [TP] and who is quoting whom from Candice Bergen’s Beverly Hills dinner party. [NYT] * Presidential candidate McCain offered a “new idea” on May 7th – to create a Task force on Human Trafficking. The problem with this new idea is that such a task force already exists. The Interagency Task Force to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons was created by the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act of 2000. [TP] * If candidate McCain is going after women’s votes he has a funny way of doing it. He missed the vote on the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, and then explained is opposition by saying that instead of equal pay women should get more education and training [TP]; a stance that totally misses the point that the problem is that women with equal education and training are not getting equal pay.

The Straight Talk Express is in the Shop.........
http://boxothoughts.blogspot.com/2008/05/straight-talk-expre...The Straight Talk Express is in the Shop......... ........so McCain is driving the Oldsmobile of political opportunism. Remember the John McCain of 2000 who would be straight up with the press. Who brought out the best in people as the Republican challenger to George W Bush. Who was easily accessible and who talked about the issues, only to get maligned and battered by the innuendos and rumors disseminated by Karl Rove? Well that John McCain is gone and in his place is a more hard nosed Republican, trying to placate the support of the 28% of the American people who align themselves with the Bush administration. Although he maintains a more moderate position on climate change and is against torture, and campaign finance reform. But who remains a staunch supporter of the Bush Administration's economic policy, the continued occupation of the War in Iraq, and has been seeking the advice and support of some of the same Bush allies who had disparaged him years ago, as well as some social conservative figures (including an anti-catholic gay basher who is eager for the rapture to come and a Reverend who believes that the main objective of America is to destroy the Islamic faith (though I don't recall seeing that in the Declaration of independence or the U.S constitution). Anyway lately McCain has been calling for a clean campaign. However on the Daily Show the other night, literally almost in the same breath of reiterating his desire for a clean campaign, McCain then defended his use of saying that Barack Obama was endorsed by Hamas. He repeated that allegation today. CNN Political Ticker: "It is very obvious that Senator Obama shares nothing of the values or goals of Hamas, which is a terrorist organization," McCain said, "But its also a fact that a spokesman from Hamas said that he approves of Obama's candidacy. I think that's of interest to the American people." How about that "clean campaign"? Either McCain forgets that in the sentence preceding the Hamas Obama comment, that he called for a clean campaign, or that he is playing such a clearly opportunistic game of balance between rallying the Conservatives while still trying to come off as above politics. Its is so Nixonian of him. One can start to see him morphing more and more into a pathetic Rovian character a little more every time he makes one of these baseless assertions. Posted by Editorz

Not all Republicans Like McBush As He Continues Showing His Huge Lack of Integrity
http://blog.progressivedem.com/2008/05/09/not-all-republican...Not all Republicans are enamored by John Sidney McBush. While eyes were focused on the Obama-Clinton results in North Carolina and Indiana, McCain should be concerned with his showing. As John Nichols at the Nation writes, "Despite the fact that all-but-coronated Republican nominee John McCain was running essentially without opposition Tuesday, 27 percent of Republican primary participants in North Carolina cast their votes for a candidate other than McCain. In Indiana, 23 percent of Republican primary voters rejected the senator from Arizona. "In both primary states, Republicans in many counties registered even greater opposition to McCain than was suggested in the statewide totals. In North Carolina, for instance, 43 percent of the voters in rural Madison County rejected the presumptive nominee, while a third of the voters in the populous Mecklenburg County cast anti-McCain votes. Most of those votes went to Paul, whose genuinely maverick candidacy has attracted backers who are not at all certain to back McCain in November. In addition, Bob Barr may run as the Libertarian presidential candidate which would not be happy news for McCain. Meanwhile, McHypocrite still keeps silent about his homophobic, anti-Catholic right wing, nutty endorser, Pastor John Hagee. And Jim Webb was quite correct to say that McAnti-GI Bill was "full of it." Think Progress shows how full of it he is. "A new Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report analyzing the impact of the GI Bill shows that McCain is indeed “full of it.” While the report explains that troop retention will decline because some troops will take advantage of their new education benefits, the loss in retention will be entirely made up for by increased military recruits: "A new Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report analyzing the impact of the GI Bill shows that McCain is indeed “full of it.” While the report explains that troop retention will decline because some troops will take advantage of their new education benefits, the loss in retention will be entirely made up for by increased military recruits: Literature on the effects of educational benefits on retention suggest that every $10,000 increase in educational benefits yields a reduction in retention of slightly more than 1 percentage point. CBO estimates that S. 22 (as modified) would more than double the present value of educational benefits for servicemembers at the first reenlistment point — from about $40,000 to over $90,000 — implying a 16 percent decline in the reenlistment rate, from about 42 percent to about 36 percent. […] Educational benefits have been shown to raise the number of military recruits. Based on an analysis of the existing literature, CBO estimates that a 10 percent increase in educational benefits would result in an increase of about 1 percent in high-quality recruits. On that basis, CBO calculates that raising the educational benefits as proposed in S. 22 would result in a 16 percent increase in recruits.John Sidney McHypocrite is just another lack of integrity poster boy.

Quick Clips: Gas Pain - Porter opposes Mother's Day?
http://desertbeacon.blogspot.com/2008/05/quick-clips-gas-pai...** Mid-grade unleaded gasoline was just a tiny scooch under $4.00 per gallon yesterday in Winnemucca, NV, and thank the heavens my pick up doesn’t require diesel – that was posted at $4.37 per gallon. However, the American Petroleum Institute will be right there to tell me that IT’S NOT THEIR FAULT. “Punishing them,” as in making them pay their appropriate and legal royalties, and their taxes on record incomes, will only “make them” raise the prices further. [WaPo] ** Close doesn’t count: “A plan to show some alleged Iranian-supplied explosives to journalists last week in Karbala and then destroy them was canceled after the United States realized none of them was from Iran.” [Kevin Drum] Oops? ** Perrspectives provides “John McCain’s Top Ten Out-of-Touch-Moments” ** “Contractors’ offshore tax havens under more scrutiny” Government Executive ** “Keeping secrets from the CIA: Why was Langley cut out of clandestine meetings with Iranian informants?” [Newsweek] Michael Isikoff and Mark Hosenball report how the Pentagon excluded the agency from “inappropriate” back channel contacts with Iranian informants, including a “key figure from the Iran-Contra affair.” Does this sound all too much like Senator John McCain’s proposal for a new super-spy agency predicated on the World War II era Office of Strategic Services? [Nation] ** Mother Jones has a good video, “McCain’s Pastor Problem.” Think Progress posts “McCain stays silent on Hagee’s homophobic slurs.” ** “Infighting holds up New Orleans levee money” Times-Picayune But wait! That wasn’t all that got tangled up in the House Republican tantrum yesterday – they voted against their own Mothers’ Day Resolution, [Think Progress] including Representative Jon Porter (R-NV3) who voted against tabling the motion to reconsider the bill. [rc 275] ** Reports and information from the House Education and Labor Committee’s investigation of the Crandall Canyon Mine disaster have been posted online for public access. ** The House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs will hold a hearing on the “Transition Assistance Program for Guard and Reserve Forces,” on May 16th.
