HD DVD promotional group officially disbands

HD DVD promotional group officially disbands Though nearly everyone has already left the HD DVD camp, the HD DVD Promotional Group officially dissolved last week, marking the absolute death of the format -- or at least, the end of any promotion for it. Fading away gently, the HD DVD specification remains under the DVD Forum, but the format itself is unlikely to go anywhere now. HD DVD - ashes to ashes

Source: WikipediaMost people know about the latest victim of the Format War - HD DVD. Developed mainly by Toshiba, the company officially announced earlier this year that the development and manufacturing process would no longer take place. This gave the Sony camp, responsible for Blu-Ray, the upper hand as they are now the future of high definition releases. March 28 and the HD DVD Promotion group has been closed for business, just another nail in the coffin. Being in South Africa, I wonder how long it will take for the affects to filter through to the local branches of Toshiba’s marketing division. Driving on the Highway past Melrose Arch is a billboard with the HD DVD logo hung high for all commuters to see. In terms of shops having to peddle off HD DVD movies, I don’t think that would be much of a problem as the range kept in most stores is limited to 3 or 4 movies. Blu Ray on the other hand has many titles right next to the HD DVD shelves almost mocking it’s fallen competitor drilling home that as far as a consumer has access to, Blu Ray was winning from the start. HD DVD has officially taken residence next to Betamax as a fallen promise. Funnily enough, Betamax was Sony’s brain child in the 80’s. Maybe the next format war will see Toshiba coming out on top learning from this experience Related articles HD DVD ceases to exist [via Zemanta] HD DVD Promotion Group officially dissolves in a high-res burst of tears [via Zemanta] HD DVD promo body dissolves itself [via Zemanta] Post from: Entropy HD DVD - ashes to ashes Share This

Популяризаторы HD DVD объявили о своем роспуске

    http://tuluza.com/?p=192

Microsoft. HD DVD is officially, officially, dead

    http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/13424.cfm

Although the format has been technically dead for over a month, HD DVD is now officially dead, as the HD DVD Promotion Group has formally dissolved itself, marking a quiet end to the High Definition format. After Toshiba's decision last month to abandon the format, other big players involved have all pulled out as well, including Microsoft, Universal Studios, Paramount Studios and more recently, Best Buy. The Promotion group, the organization in charge of persuading the world to adopt HD DVD, has now voted to disband, leaving HD DVD and its branding to the DVD Forum. The question still remains however if the world will go Blu or move to flash memory and HD downloads as internet speeds get faster and flash capacities get larger. Permalink | Comments

HD DVD Promotion Group formally dissolved

    http://www.toysgadget.com/hd-dvd-promotion-group-formally-di...

Section: Video, DVD Players/DVRs, HDTV While the announcement from Toshiba pulling HD DVD support essentially killed of the format, we can now officially declare it dead. The HD DVD Promotion Group has officially been closed, which removes any chance of resurgence of the format. The group, as of March 28 quietly shut themselves down, and so we have it, HD DVD is done. A quick visit to the HD DVD Promotion Group website, presents the simple message: “The HD DVD Promotion Group was dissolved as of March 28, 2008, and the website was closed accordingly.” Now lets move on to the next question; Will movie downloads begin to take shape, will we begin to see Blu-ray adoption or will most people just choose to continue with the standard DVD?
