Will of the People
http://www.taylormarsh.com/ archives_view.php?id=27691
guest post by texasdarlin Let’s examine the "will of the people" in selecting our 2008 Democratic nominee. Many party leaders and superdelegates have emphasized its importance. First, it should be noted that the DNC’s decision to strip Florida and Michigan of its delegates made no mention of disregarding the popular votes from these two battleground states. After all, how can you ignore 2.3 million citizens, including a record turnout in Florida, who insisted on casting ballots even though officials told them it was pointless? That would be un-American. (See more thoughts about Florida and Michigan below).

Hillary Holds Hard Hitting Q&A With Bloggers: Well Not Really
http://notesunderground.wordpress.com/2008/05/18/hillary-hol...This past Friday, Senator Clinton held a conference call (audio here), that was suppose to be a Q&A, with bloggers. What was suppose to be a chance to answer questions to those of the political blogosphere quickly turned into a Hillary love-fest to allow her followers to get their Clinton, politiperv-fetish on. It opens with a Hillary surrogate going over her fund raising totals, but fails to include the tens of millions that her campaign is in debt for, or the fact that many vendors aren’t being paid. Some of these vendors are small companies that are mom & pop establishments who print up the fliers for her campaign, or non-for-profits who rent out hall space to hold rallies, both of whom that run on razor thin budgets and use one months income to pay off the previous months expenses …..but don’t worry, Hillary is ready to run our economy on day one, even if she can’t run her campaign finances for the past year. The same surrogate then goes on to tell those invited in to the call - needless to say, I wasn’t, although I couldn’t imagine why - that they are doing great work at praising the Senator, and that their work on the “front lines” was not going unrecognized. Hold on; wasn’t this suppose to be a Q&A? I’m sure these bloggers are objective and do not have a blind loyalty to Hillary. After-all, they’re claiming to be citizen journalist. This was followed by a quick going over of the rules to asking questions. Wait, there are rules to asking questions on a conference call that is purposely designed to allow the operator to control who is talking, thus preventing people from shouting over one another with their questions? Why do you need rules when the candidate has complete control? After the rules, the surrogate then introduces Senator Clinton. She quickly thanks her surrogate, Peter, and then rattles off several talking points. Hold up, this is suppose to be a Q&A with citizen journalist, why is she disseminating talking points? Alright, let’s cut through the bullshit. These bloggers were picked due to their unfettered love of everything Hillary. Hillary’s first talking point was the popular vote. We’ve all heard this one before. I just want to make a couple of points. First, we have acknowledgement I’m 50,000 ahead in the popular vote. I’ll end the elections on June 3 ahead in popular vote. First, I want to know who, besides Hillary and her bloggers, is confirming this acknowledgment. Is there an independent third party? Someone who doesn’t have a stake in the Obama-Clinton election? I highly doubt it, because here is the simple fact - no one knows what the popular vote is due to the caucus system. Second, when did Hillary become clairvoyant? It didn’t take long for the Hillary blogosphere to jump all over this. From the Kos in Exile group: The meat of the conversation is that Hillary sees a clear path to the nomination. She said that the campaign had “acknowledgment” that Hillary is ahead in the popular vote. And (she said) she expects to be ahead on the popular vote after the last primary on June 3rd. From Taylor Marsh: 3. A blogger also points out that Clinton has now won the popular vote in 195 US Congressional Districts, compared to 187 for Obama. Including Florida and Michigan, it would be 227 for Clinton and 195 for Obama. For her next argument, Hillary rolled out old reliable - it’s the map, not the math. Hillary still refuses to acknowledge that a caucus is within the rules of the primary system that many states have in place, and that they should not count - unless she was the winner. She also seems to think that a primary is not decided by delegates, but rather by electoral votes. The more disturbing part is that she believes the DNC primary system works under RNC rules of winner takes all. Before I blow this misnomer all to hell, let’s take a look at what those that called in had to say about this talking point. From Talk Left: The number one message: It’s the map not the math. In addition to the popular vote, the electoral map shows her with a cushion and Obama with a deficit. She has won 311 electoral votes to Obama’s 217. While a few of her’s like Texas and Oklahoma will be a challenge in November, many of his states will be: Alaska, Idaho, Utah, to name a few. From that group still in denial exile: In addition to that since our big win in West Virginia, she has won states totaling 300 electoral votes while Barack has won states with 217 electoral votes. AND she has far fewer deep red states in her list. Alright, let’s cut through the crap. Anyone who thinks that states like New York, California, or even Michigan are suddenly going to turn red this year needs to have their fucking head examined. Yes, it’s true that current polling shows Hillary with less swing states, but Obama brings states to the table that no one thought a Democrat could win in a million years. Obama also has a better lead in fund raising, and more resources at his disposal. Not to mention that it’s way to early to be looking at any poll concerning the general election. From there the call quickly spirals into some weird Hillary politi-porn love fest that almost becomes unbearable to listen to. It kind of fits in well with her rubber-neck campaign, it’s tragic, but you can’t help but watch as it blows apart and look for the casualties. The funniest part of the whole thing - most of her bloggers aren’t smart enough to come up with their own talking points and have to parrot (ditto head) everything that Rush Hillary says. What’s even sadder is that Hillary is even less original than her bloggers - after-all, she’s rehashing arguments that have been put to bed already. Although, one could also argue that her bloggers are worst than Hillary since they don’t realize that they’ve been put to bed. Oh, and out of the handful of callers that did get to speak to Senator Clinton, only one asked a question of any substance - and then the Senator mysteriously disappeared before getting out an answer. Kind of like Rush Limpballs and anytime someone asks him a question with any substance. Funny how that works.
