What Do Republicans Want? Bottom Line!
House Speaker John Boehner was just on the tee vee dodging questions from reporters. He said that the budget impasse has nothing to do with Planned Parenthood, but was still all about the Democrats being unwilling to consider serious spending cuts.
OK, at first the GOP demanded $33 billion in cuts.
The Democrats, who wanted something around $10 billion, caved.
Then the GOP moved the goal post. Now they wanted $60 billion.
The two sides met, and came to an agreement — so we are being told — of cuts around $37 billion.
Now I'm seeing GOP lawmakers on the news saying anything less than $100 billion in cuts would be a joke.
And there's Boehner, his orange face on the tee vee, saying the Democrats won't consider serious spending cuts.
Meeting the GOP more than half way? That's NOT a serious attempt to cut spending? OK, how about if they go more than 3/4 of the way?
Just now, Senate Majority Leader Reid was on the telly saying that Democrats and Republicans AGREED to 78% of the cuts the GOP demanded!!! I would call that one HELL of a compromise. Reid said he got an e-mail this morning telling him that Republicans were backing away from the agreement.
So the truth is laid bare. The numbers are NOT holding up the agreement.
The Tea Party is pushing Boehner into accepting NO DEAL that includes ANY federal funding of Planned Parenthood.
And nobody will come right out and deny that!
Every time they're asked, the GOP lawmakers I've seen on TV say that "most of the budget policy rider issues have been resolved." They won't say which have NOT been resolved. They won't say what number they would accept as "serious spending cuts." Just that the Democrats aren't there yet.Continued on the next page
