The Speech President Obama SHOULD Give
My fellow Americans.
You've no doubt heard by now that Speaker of the House John Boehner has pulled out of our debt ceiling talks. It seems like every time we get close to a deal, one of the Republican leaders pulls out of the discussions and we find ourselves back at Square One.
Let me tell you what the Speaker said, in his own words, as his reason for abandoning the talks.
"Despite good-faith efforts to find common ground, the White House will not pursue a bigger debt reduction agreement without tax hikes," Boehner said in the statement.
I wonder, does it make your mouth taste bad when you lie like that?
We are not talking about TAX HIKES! We are talking about CLOSING LOOPHOLES. We are talking about RESTORING A TAX RATE to the levels they were before the TEMPORARY Bush Tax Cuts took effect in 2001. It is NOT a TAX HIKE to CLOSE LOOPHOLES and RESTORE RATES to where they were before a TEMPORARY tax cut.
They lie, they twist words, they confuse the issues intentionally, they bamboozle! It's what they do! It's their stock in trade. And these non-existent "tax hikes" do NOT affect the middle class. They affect the upper one percent, the millionaires and billionaires who currently sail along in comfort and ease while their fellow Americans suffer.
The Republicans tell you that "this is not the time to raise taxes on the people we are counting on to create jobs." WHAT THE HELL MORE DO THEY WANT??? Their taxes are ALREADY at the lowest rate they've been since the 1950s! If lower taxes mean more jobs, then Mr. Speaker — "WHERE THE HELL ARE THE JOBS?" These tax rates have been at historic lows since 2001. That's 10 years these "job creators" have had to create jobs! Mr. Speaker — "WHERE THE HELL ARE THE JOBS?" And they say cutting taxes even further will mean MORE jobs. That lessening the already ridiculously light tax burden on the mega-wealthy will give them MORE money to create MORE jobs. But if lower taxes meant more jobs, WHERE ARE THE JOBS FROM THE BUSH TAX CUTS?
Mr. Speaker — "WHERE ARE THE JOBS?"
I'll tell you where the jobs are. They've been sent to Mexico. They've been sent to India. They've been sent to other foreign lands where the workers' standard of living is lower than ours, where the American corporate masters can get their products and services made and delivered at a fraction of the cost, with workers who won't complain about wages or benefits on on-the-job safety. And they do this without paying any penalty whatsoever.Continued on the next page
