The Republican Establishment’s Golden Boy Shape Shifter Mitt Romney and the War against Conservatism - Page 4
There are simple reasons a liberal publication such as the New York Times would handle Romney with kid gloves, because he is the closest they will get to a liberal in the Republican Party. The same logic that dictates liberal’s non-reaction against a Romney candidacy have caused them to spit venom at Rick Perry, whose plan really shines with conservative principles. Not once has the establishment gone to bat for Perry, and their brief support for Cain was designed to help split the conservative vote. Romney can win the nomination with ¾ of conservatives picking between 3 or 4 other candidates, and their plan may work unless the grass roots decides that Perry can go the distance and beat Romney. Certainly no one else has the record or money to do so.
The Republican establishment has its golden boy, but he may or may not get them a win. One thing is for sure, they do not share conservative quixotic dream of a true champion, even if that dream had resurrected them from a near political death experience.
