Rush Limbaugh and the Testing of the Constitution - Page 2
It is natural for a person to smell blood when someone else’s viewpoint is being forced on him or her through tax dollar coercion- Think NPR. In this case, the speech is not so free nor is it necessarily theirs. Liberals and conservatives should consider this when they wonder why politics are so divisive and ugly. If we want what’s best for our countries future we should be more concerned about the constitution, about playing by the rules, then winning.
Rush Limbaugh is listener supported through commercial enterprise. That means no one is coerced into supporting his viewpoints. If you don’t like it, it is perfectly legitimate to contact the company of interest and express your displeasure. It is not okay to lobby congress for new laws against AM talk show hosts that use hate speech you find offensive.
Everyone who listens has the opportunity to change the channel just as anyone listening to Howard Stern or Mike Malloy does. If we take the latter approach and agree to turn our dials, our interests in free speech will be furthered. If we regress into imposing our viewpoints on others, as some have suggested, then my Rook Seven, will take your Queen, and the game will continue until the pieces are gone and we are in Stalemate.
