Mixing Turkey Day with Politics - A Thanksgiving Wish List
So what kind of an asshole would bring politics into Thanksgiving, one of our most sacred of national holidays?
Why...that would be me.
I haven’t exactly been very productive here lately for the goodness that is Technorati, but I would be remiss if I didn’t at least make a half-hearted attempt to inject a minor dose of my generally warped political ideology into my personal favorite holiday by offering up my wishes for this coming Thanksgiving.
For me, this list is a labor of love. I’ve spent countless hours (cough) pondering the following items.
The 2012 Presidential Campaign – My first wish this Thanksgiving is that we don’t see the start of the next crappy presidential campaign before we’ve had a chance to plunge ourselves into our individual turkey induced comas. Two years ago, we had some pretty lousy choices: the guy with the unique name or the old man crazier than Lou Holtz after an all-night bender. It turns out the guy with the unique name won the election, and all was right with the world except for the notion that both guys have, for the most part, been setting new standards for incompetence in their respective offices since November 2008.
And now we have the incessant “war gaming” of the Republican primary contenders by some conservative commentators (read as: a guy whose name rhymes with “Sean Hannity”) who insist on contriving every possible GOP scenario, and who has what chance, and who has been seen in Iowa lately, and blah, blah, crap, crap, crap. I may be conservative myself, but son of a...for the love of Pete...just shut the hell up already!
Enough with the “Restoring (insert nice adjective here)” Rallies – I’m a fan of Glenn Beck since his first talk radio gig in Tampa. There, I said it. Let the spiteful comments begin, but as much as I appreciate the guy’s career, even I found his Restoring Honor rally at the Lincoln Memorial a hair over the top. Then we had Ed Schultz from MSNBC, who wasn’t necessarily “restoring” anything but had his “One Nation Working Together” rally at the same location.Continued on the next page
