Kwame Kilpatrick Finagles Out of Arrest
Life hasn't been the same without the wacky Kwame Kilpatrick as the mayor of Detroit. Since his forced departure from the office, he moved to Texas and started working a normal job but still has to pay the city $1 million in restitution.
Well, he got a little behind on his payments last week and didn't pay his required $79,000 at the deadline so they drafted an arrest warrant today for violating his probation. Unfortunately, that warrant got gavelblocked by a three-judge appellate court, acting "sua sponte" (nobody asked for it, they just felt it was the proper thing to do.)
Oh, so close.
Whenever the guy steps into a courtroom, it's quite the spectacle. Back in December, when he said he was trying to reduce his monthly restitution payment, he had to answer for his wife's $15,000 plastic surgery, among other purchases.
But I'm not entirely sure what the appellate judges were doing here by allowing Kwame to sleep in his own bed tonight. His own lawyers didn't have their papers straight, so his deadbeat client benefits from it? You just want to see what will happen next.
