Kicking the Two-Party Politics Addiction
After months of painstaking research and consideration I made the leap and switched political parties today or better yet I opted-out of the two-party politics that so many voters in the United States are addicted to.
I actually feel quite relieved that I no longer have to subscribe to an almost molded political party that has no interest in representing the voters but instead only serves the special interest groups that donate the most money to their candidates election campaigns.
So you must be asking yourself which party I left? I decided to leave the Democratic Party.
When you take a good look at the elected Democrats and Republicans their honestly isn't too much to differentiate the two sides. They both are driven by special interests and the check books of this countries largest PAC's (Political Action Committees).
It seems like just months ago I was content with being a Democrat and then I woke up and began taking a closer look at how politicians were voting and what they promised in their campaigns and what issues they said they cared about and I realized I was hooked by the catch phrases and promises.
I had taken the politicians for their word like many millions of Americans and yet came to realize that I had not held the people I voted for accountable for keeping their promises and being solid in their issues.
A few people in the political blogging and journalism field have written some vibrant articles on why the two-party system has failed Americans and that inspired me to make a change by becoming an Independent.
My decision to leave the Democrats behind has not come without criticism from my family and peers but in all honesty I'm not just making this choice for myself but am doing it for my family and friends as well and I hope someday they will come to the realization that they have very little to gain from supporting the two-party monopoly that is so negatively impacting their lives and the lives of millions of Americans.
Change can only occur through action and I'm using my Soapbox and my vote to try to bring change. If I feel that an issue may be too liberal I will oppose it and if I feel an issue is too conservative I will oppose it.
This is the beauty of being Independent.
